The situation

What has happened

The basement slab and ground floor slab for units 1 to 6 at Kellerman Street have cured and the surveyor has placed the control points and the building line. The Construction Manager needs the ground floor wall frames for units 1 to 3 set out and checked before the framing crew arrives on Monday. The architectural drawings show party walls on the boundary between units, wet areas with set-downs and a stair void in each unit. The frame supplier's layout gives the frame lengths and openings. Rain is forecast for the afternoon and the site diary must record the set-out check. Any dimension that does not close has to be reported to the leading hand before frames are stood.

Your brief. Read the plans and the frame layout, calculate and mark the set-out for the ground floor wall frames of units 1 to 3, check the set-out for square and dimension closure, and record the check so the frames can be stood on Monday.

Evidence guide

Check the calculations against the drawings, confirm the diagonals and closure are within tolerance and that the sketch is legible enough for another carpenter to use. The site diary entry must be factual and dated. Give credit for discrepancies found and reported through the right person rather than worked around silently.

The student's evidence summary lists every record they created or changed in the systems named above, their notes and the tasks they ticked. Verify it against the deliverables and your own assessment tool.
