The situation

What has happened

A placement student is joining the framing crew at the Kellerman Street townhouse project for two weeks. The leading hand, Jack Whitlam, will be off site on Tuesday morning receiving a truss delivery and has asked you to run the site induction and the prestart briefing. The first floor decks for units 1 to 3 are in place, edge protection is installed on the north side only, and a near miss involving a dropped reinforcing bar offcut was recorded last week. The site WHS management plan, the SWMS for first floor work and the toolbox talk template are in the document library. The training matrix and site diary must be updated before work starts.

Your brief. Prepare and deliver a site induction for the placement student covering the site rules, emergency arrangements and current hazards, then run a prestart briefing for the crew on working at heights and dropped objects. Record both correctly in the training matrix and the site diary.

What to look for

Evidence guide

Look for an induction that covers the actual site plan rather than generic content, a prestart that references the real near miss and the SWMS, complete and accurate records in all three systems, and a hazard report written factually within the procedure's timeframe. The student must show they told the supervisor before work started on the unprotected edge.

The student's evidence summary lists every record they created or changed in the systems named above, their notes and the tasks they ticked. Verify it against the deliverables and your own assessment tool.
